The Crofter’s House

Filmed November 2021, The Isle of Skye.

Autumn was taking its last breathe when I travelled up to Skye, to stay in the warm haven of The Crofter’s House. I could feel my heart rate slow and my body relax as soon as I stepped across the threshold.

It was this feeling I most wanted to capture in the film, and create an almost meditation on tranquility. Yet I also wanted the sense that that someone was just about to walk through the door, or had just stepped out.

The music backdrop is the track The Old Dictaphone by Arun Sood from his album Searching Erksine. It’s an amazing record; a tribute to Vallay, a Hebridean island that Arun’s grandma once lived upon. We were so grateful to Arun for letting us use this track.

And if you ever find yourself looking Skyewards, I would highly recommend spending time at this place. You might even see otters and dolphins the bay as I did - what a treat!

I was drawn to working with Sarah as her filmmaking conveys a deep sense of home through her use of light and visual story telling so I was delighted when she agreed to come and stay for a few days last November. Despite absolutely dreadful weather, she captured some stunning clips in and around the cottage which she wove together into a beautiful meditation. Sarah is fantastic to work with, perceptive of our requirements and meticulous in answering the brief and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a filmmaker who captures the heart and soul of a subject.
